Course Syllabus
Welcome to Concept and Creative Thinking! This is a second tier studio course created to assist students to analyze artistic concepts and use them in new and creative ways. Students will learn to look at things in a new and innovative light, how to “think outside of the box”.
Course Content:
- Unit 1- What is Creativity?
- Unit 2- Scale: Modeling and the Creative Thinking Process
- Unit 3- Ordinary to Extraordinary: Investigating Concepts
- Unit 4- Movement: Defining the Problem
- Unit 5- Metamorphosis: Implementing the Idea
- Unit 6- Real World Applications of the Creative Thinking Process
- Unit 7- Revisiting the Implemented Idea: Evaluation, Revision, and Further
Course Requirements and Grading:
- Class Notebook
- In-class exercises, handouts, and notes
- Homework assignments
- In-class Studio/ Research Assignment
- Studio and research projects will be completed for each concept discussed in class.
- Final Concept Projects
- At the completion of each unit you will be required to create an original art project that deals with that concept.
- Each final project must include: brainstorming, research, preliminary sketches and/or models, and an artist statement.
- There will be a class critique for each final project.
